Making your own style board

Vanaf nu kan je mijn blog ook in het Nederlands lezen. Het voelt wel leuk om ook in mijn moedertaal te schrijven.

Ik hou heel veel van al die online testjes die je zogenaamd helpen om je stijl te bepalen. Ik doe maar alsof die vragenlijstjes echt kloppen (maar ik weet goed genoeg dat dit niet het geval is). Nochtans is het resultaat steeds ongeveer hetzelfde: altijd iets country-, cottage-, brocante-achtig.

Making Lemonade & Fieldstone Hill Designs schreven over style boards, hoe je ze kan maken en hoe je zo je persoonlijke stijl ontdekt. Dat is echt iets voor mij, dus ik ging het meteen proberen. Ik moest enkel mijn eigen Pinterest openen, 9 pins kiezen die typisch 'mij' waren en een collage maken met Picmonkey.

Het resultaat is ongeveer wat mijn stijl definieert. Ik heb gemerkt dat ik heel erg beïnvloed werd in mijn woonstijl door reizen naar de Verenigde Staten en Engeland (Cornwall & Devon). Vandaar ook de 'old red barn' en de cottage tuin in mijn style board.

Kort samengevat ben ik gek van: schommelstoelen en warme gezellige quilts; meubels met een verweerde, door de tijd aangetaste, uitstraling; lieflijke (vaak Engelse) mokken, kommetjes en kannen; country rood, blauw en cottage groen, vaak tegen een witte achtergrond. Heel erg country & cottage dus.

Even iets heel anders: Sommige volgers weten dat ik binnenkort start met een webshop. Ik wil héél graag dat die ten laatste in de vroege lente online is. In deze 'opstartperiode' moet ik heel wat beslissingen nemen, o.a. over deze blog. Eéntje ervan was de taalkeuze, en tweetalig Engels-Nederlands leek mij de beste oplossing. Extra werk, een beetje gepruts met html, maar met plezier.

Een ander 'probleem' om aan te pakken was de naam van deze blog. 'The Gingerbread Gem' zal niet lang meer bestaan. Ik ben gewoon om 'Goedele van The Gingerbread Gem' te zijn en dat zal ik best wel missen. Even aanpassen dus! Binnenkort verander ik de URL van deze blog naar de naam van mijn webshop. Ook het design zal een beetje veranderen. Schrik dus niet als je een vreemde naam in je Blogger Dashboard of in je mailbox ziet.

I just love the online 'Take this quiz and we'll identify your decorating style'-stuff. I pretend that the quizzes really help me to define my style (but you and I know they don't ...). Although ... I always end up in the same categories, something country-, cottage- or farmhouse-ish. Making Lemonade & Fieldstone Hill Designs shared some ideas about making your own style boards to discover your signature style. I just had to try this! All I had to do was open my own Pinterest boards, select 9 pins and create a collage with Picmonkey.

The result is pretty much what defines my style. I was inspired a lot by travels to the United States and England. That's why the old red barn and the cottage garden are so dominant in my style board.

In a nutshell: rocking chairs and quilts to snuggle under; old, worn and chippy wooden surfaces; all sorts of pottery; red, blue and cottage green, often on a white background. To me the best of different country and cottage styles and different worlds.

On a different note: I want to have my business online early Spring at the latest! There are still some decisions that have to be made, involving this blog. Sadly enough, it's time to say goodbye to The Gingerbread Gem. Don't get me wrong! This blog will still be here, but with a different name, my business name. I'll just change the URL and the design. I'll miss my old name though. But a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right?

So, dear followers, don't be surprised when you suddenly see an 'unknown' blog on your Blogger-Dashboard or in your mailbox. Don't be afraid, don't remove or delete it, it's just me ;-). I'm also working on making this blog bilingual: Dutch/English.

Just to let you know. I'll keep you posted when the changes are about to be made!
