Wood-fired brick oven
My husband always needs new projects, like me, but his projects are bigger than mine :-) and more expensive. Those are my only complaints, because I'm actually very proud of my husband's accomplishments in our backyard. In the summer of 2008 he built a big playhouse for the children. Last summer he made his own brick oven.
The Museum of Older Techniques (MOT) in Grimbergen, Belgium, wants to preserve brick ovens in Flanders. They already exist thousands of years. Archeologists even found an oven of 6500 years old, close to Tongeren, the city were my husband was born.
Whoever wants to build an oven and understands Dutch: the museum has instructions on the website. There's also an inventory of existing brick ovens in Flanders. We're on the list! (although we have a new one)

This is our wood-fired brick oven. It is not finished yet: we'll cover the concrete blocks with wood next spring.

How very interesting...I'm assuming you can bake in the oven even though parts of it need to be finished?
ReplyDeleteBread looks awesome.
Blessings,
Karen
Karen, yes we can bake. We are still struggling with the bread. We've had some very black crust ;-). Pizza is easier.
